Single-tooth implant
One missing tooth, one implant, one crown. The neighbouring teeth stay untouched – the main reason many dentists prefer it to a classic bridge.

What it is
A single-tooth implant replaces exactly one tooth. It has three parts: the implant itself in the bone, a connecting piece called the abutment and the visible crown. Because the implant stands alone, the teeth on either side do not have to be ground down as they would for a conventional bridge.
When it is usually considered
- a tooth was lost after an accident, a fracture or a failed root canal treatment;
- a tooth cannot be saved and has to be removed;
- a baby tooth was kept into adulthood and has finally been lost;
- a gap has been there for a while and you want a fixed solution.
How treatment usually runs
- AssessmentExamination and imaging to check bone volume and nearby structures.
- PlacementThe implant is placed under local anaesthesia. Sometimes a temporary tooth is fitted, sometimes the area simply heals.
- HealingThe bone grows around the implant. How long this takes varies from person to person and is decided by the dentist.
- CrownAn impression or digital scan is taken and the final crown is fixed.
For patients travelling to Bodrum this often means two visits: one for placement and one for the final crown. In selected cases a dentist may suggest immediate loading. Read more in one trip or two?
Front teeth need extra care
In the visible smile zone, the shape of the gum and the colour of the crown matter as much as the implant itself. Ask how the dentist plans to manage the gum line and whether a temporary tooth is planned during healing.
Common questions
Does a single implant hurt?
Placement is done under local anaesthesia. Afterwards some swelling and tenderness for a few days is common; your dentist will advise on pain relief.
Is an implant better than a bridge for one tooth?
Often, because it spares the neighbouring teeth. But if those teeth already need crowns, a bridge can be a sensible alternative. Discuss both with your dentist.
